The Globe and Mail featured work by UBC psychology professor Delroy Paulhus and Erin E. Buckels, a UBC PhD candidate.
Buckels, Paulhus and Paul Trapnell of the University of Winnipeg, are studying what they call “the dark tetrad” of personality traits and published a paper called “Trolls Just Want to Have Fun.”
The study describes the four traits of narcissism, Machiavellianism, psychopathy and sadism.
“People who are high in dark-tetrad traits are very extroverted, dominant and more active online than others,” Buckels said.
