Could Trump happen in Canada?

The Globe and Mail interviewed David Green, a UBC economics professor, for a story on the factors that contributed to Trump’s success in American politics.

North American factories had hired workers with low education for decades, then fired them as manufacturing moved overseas, Green said. Then many found work in construction when the American housing market expanded but were left without work when that bubble burst.

“Why has Trump come along now?” Green asked. “The answer is that, post 2008, it has become more and more apparent that there isn’t something to save those people.”
