Scientific American quoted Mark Halpern, a UBC professor in the physics and astronomy department, for a story on dark energy, the force of space that makes the universe expand faster.
Halpern discussed the benefits of the Canadian Hydrogen Intensity Mapping Experiment, a telescope that gathers radio waves from a line that sweeps around as Earth rotates, creating a picture of the sky.
“It is a very clean measurement,” said Halpern, adding the relatively cheap instrument is “a stunning bargain.”
