A drug company’s stealth marketing campaign exposed

CBC quoted Jerilynn Prior, the director of UBC’s Centre for Menstrual Cycle and Ovulation Research, for a story on an ad disguised as news.

A marketing campaign by a drug company created news about a condition and encouraged women to see their doctor. The campaign was initiated and sponsored by Novo Nordisk Canada Inc., which makes a vaginal hormone pill.

“It is misrepresenting the marketing purpose behind it. It’s misrepresenting as helping women, but its purpose is making money,” Prior said.
