Students struggle to find housing in red-hot rental market

A Global story about the difficulties of finding affordable rental housing in Vancouver features a number of university students struggling to find apartments because the vacancy rate is as low as 0.6 per cent.

UBC’s Director of Student Housing and Hospitality, Andrew Parr, says the university provides 11,000 beds on campus for students but there are another 5,600 students on the waitlist for campus housing. A new residence building, Orchard Commons, opens this fall and several more housing projects are currently under development at UBC.
