How Alan Kurdi’s death has affected Canada, one year later

A Canadian Press story published in Maclean’s about the Syrian refugee crisis examined how a photo of the death of two-year old Alan Kurdi affected last fall’s federal election and the issue of refugees to Canada.

“I think the important amount of attention that news story got probably pushed the refugee issue up into the public prominence and linked it to the election in a more direct way than had previously been happening,” said Catherine Dauvergne, dean of the Peter A. Allard School of Law and a specialist in refugee and immigration law.

This story also appeared in the CBC and the Times Colonist.
