The Globe and Mail reported on UBC’s new student residence the Orchard Commons which is open to both domestic and international students and houses Vantage College, a first-year program for international students.
Vantage is one of many programs offered at universities across Canada that provides foreign students, who meet the academic requirements but lack English-language skills, with an opportunity to improve their English and complete first-year courses. Vantage College opened in 2014.
“This is a new model, so I don’t know if anyone knew where or how this would grow and we’ve really learned a lot from launching,” said Joanne Fox, the principal of Vantage College.
