Mushroom benches take eco-building to the next level

University Affairs reported on UBC’s benches made of mushrooms, and interviewed Joe Dahmen, a UBC professor of landscape architecture who worked on the project.

He said the benches take environmentally-friendly building materials to a new level.

“The bench is actually alive,” he said. “At some point, it’s possible that they’ll produce a whole lot of edible oyster mushroom fruit – like the [mushrooms] you can buy in the supermarket.”
