B.C. doctor helps Rio athletes avoid Zika

24 Hours Vancouver interviewed Dr. Babak Shadgan, a UBC sports medicine doctor, for a story on how athletes in Rio de Janeiro can avoid the Zika virus.

Shadgan said these Olympics will be the first to take place “during pandemic conditions.”

“It appears at this time, the best way is self-protection against mosquito bites. We recommend all our athletes and team members to try to cover their bodies as much as possible. Try to use long sleeve, long pants, covered shoes instead of sandals or shorts or short-sleeved clothing,” he said.
