Parenting lessons: How to keep kids math-savvy all summer

CTV News interviewed Susan Gerofsky, UBC professor in the department of curriculum and pedagogy, about how to keep kids on top of their math skills during the summer.

Gerofsky said parents should explore new concepts with their kids.

“It’s wonderful if the adults in kids’ lives can express curiosity and wonder about how the world works. That’s quite infectious in kids,” said Gerofsky. “It’s better than saying, ‘You must do all these exercises before lunch.’ That sounds more like a punishment than an exploration.”
