Racism has always been a part of Vancouver real estate

The Georgia Straight interviewed UBC history professor Henry Yu for a story on the pattern of racism in Vancouver real estate.

“From a historian’s point of view, this goes right back to the founding of Vancouver and to the founding of British Columbia,” Yu said. “Who could preempt Crown land? Who could take this free land? Only people from Europe. And so, right away, began this idea that only migrants coming from certain places are reaping the benefits of colonial land acquisition.”
