Campus sexual violence a small part of a bigger problem

An article in the Vancouver Sun on campus sexual violence includes an interview with Sara-Jane Finlay, UBC’s associate vice-president of equity and inclusion.

Finlay said the perception that campuses are more dangerous for young women than elsewhere is not true. She is the main author of UBC’s draft sex assault policy, which the university’s board of governors approved last week.

According to the article, post-secondary students are slightly less likely to be raped, groped, assaulted or harassed than other women aged 18 to 24. Aboriginal women are three times more likely to be sexually assaulted than other Canadian women.
