Architects hope Rough House inspires more innovative homes

Ron Kellett, a UBC landscape architecture professor, was interviewed for a Globe and Mail story on the Kitsilano house that won a B.C. Lieutenant-Governor’s award for architecture.

The home called “Rough House” is the exception in Vancouver, as Kellety and other architects said the city’s zoning bylaws often lead to homogenous housing.

“If you look at south of Shaughnessy between Oak and Cambie, there’s block after block of not very interesting brochure-cover houses,” Kellett said.
