NDP will target foreign owners in fight for housing affordability

Metro News featured work by UBC economists Tsur Somerville and Thomas Davidoff, and Paul Kershaw at UBC’s school of population and health, in a story about housing affordability.

British Columbia NDP leader John Horgan said he would use taxes in the fight against sky-rocketing costs and “rampant” foreign investment in Metro Vancouver real estate.

Somerville and Davidoff did work that formed the basis of the a proposed housing affordability levy, while Kershaw Generation Squeeze project called for further property taxes and surcharges based on home value.
