Researchers work to save endangered woodpeckers

CBC News reported on UBC forestry professor Kathy Martin and UBC forestry graduate student Julien St. Amand as they work to save endangered woodpeckers that are only found in B.C.

St. Amand has been studying the Williamson’s sapsucker in the field for two years to learn about its habitat and confirmed the bird depends on Douglas fir trees.

“Once we have a good sense of their living pattern, we can improve the civil environment for them and keep the birds in a managed landscape, and we will continue to refine how many Williamson’s sapsuckers there are in B.C,” Martin said.
