Vancouver’s top Airbnb earners are commercial hosts

A Globe and Mail story about Vancouver’s Airbnb market focuses on research by a UBC School of Community and Regional Planning student.

Iain Marjoribanks found that 53 per cent of the 3,424 active Airbnb listings in Vancouver as of last December were run by commercial hosts who rented out from one to 20-plus units and didn’t live in any of them. These operators control around 1,800 rental housing units, making them unavailable for long-term renters, according to his study.
