UBC researching mushrooms as building material

An article on Journal of Commerce highlighted UBC research on using mushrooms as building material.

Joe Dahmen, assistant professor at the UBC School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture, is one of the researchers studying mycelium biocomposites, an emerging field where mushroom roots grow in loose cellulosic material like sawdust.

Six new benches on UBC campus were grown from a blend of oyster mushroom spores and alder sawdust packed into moulds.
