Summer program trains indigenous artists in wood carving

A story in University Affairs highlights a training program for indigenous wood carvers co-created by UBC forestry professor Chris Gaston.

The Opening Doors program includes computer numerical control technology that quickly reproduces the work of the artists.

“It’ll be way easier for them [the artists] to teach the technique of carving on this already roughed out piece than it would be starting from scratch,” Gaston said.
