Jonathan Girard, director of orchestras and assistant professor of conducting and ensembles at the UBC School of Music, wrote an op-ed for the Vancouver Sun about saving music in elementary schools.
Girard said “music is the universal language of humanity” and explains why more needs to be done for music programs in Vancouver public schools.
“The Vancouver School Board and VSB administrators have the power and the responsibility to fix this immediately. I urge them to restore funding to the bands and strings programs for our deserving elementary school students,” Girard wrote.
