A CBC article on a natural alternative to antibiotics in animal feed quoted Bob Hancock, director of UBC’s centre for microbial diseases and immunity research.
According to Hancock, there’s a “huge crisis” stemming from the lack of new antibiotics at a time of growing antibiotic resistance.
“The bottom line is that if we don’t do something new, then we’ll end up in the pre-antibiotic era where the most intensive medical procedures will be really difficult. It is a potential medical disaster,” said Hancock.
