Driverless cars could lead to more traffic

UBC transportation expert AnnaLisa Meyboom believes government should reimagine a future transportation system that includes driverless cars. In an interview on CBC’s Early Edition, Meyboom said future possibilities include self-driving shuttles carrying about 10 people on a fixed route or on demand, and driverless taxi fleets. However, legislation would be needed to ensure that low-density areas still continue to have some form of public transit if private operators decide there’s not enough business to continue operating in the region.
