The darker side of pregnancy

Dr. Shaila Misri, a clinical professor of psychiatry and obstetrics and gynecology at UBC, discussed the challenges faced by expectant mothers who are suffering from depression or anxiety. Prior history of depression, a family history of mood disorders, marital instability and lack of social support are risk factors for experiencing a mood disorder during pregnancy, Misri told US News & World Report.

Misri advised women to stay in close touch with their doctor, and to introduce the subject if they’re feeling depressed or anxious.
