Zika virus detected in seven B.C. residents

Seven B.C. residents, including two pregnant women, have tested positive for the Zika virus, the Vancouver Sun reported.

Pregnant, infected women will receive ultrasounds every three to four weeks to monitor the development of their babies, according to David Patrick, an expert in epidemiology and public health at UBC and B.C. Centre for Disease Control. However, this has its limitations in that ultrasound “cannot reliably detect microcephaly until late in the second trimester,” Patrick said.
