Vancouver’s affordable housing ‘pilot’ limited but worthwhile

Vancouver’s proposal for an affordable home-ownership program will only help a few people but it’s worth testing out, experts told the Globe and Mail.

“It’s going to be a narrow range of people, but it will still be attractive to some,” said UBC planning expert Penny Gurstein. “I think it’s worth trying and assessing.”

The maximum household income for the program is $96,000, which will limit families to a condo worth about $500,000. Gurstein says it’s increasingly difficult to find new condos for under $400,000.
