UBC AGM features Olympic Gold Medalist & Sustainability Expert
Join us for UBC’s 2008 Annual General Meeting – held at the new UBC Thunderbird Arena – and read UBC’s Annual Report to the community.
Date: Nov. 4

Place: UBC Thunderbird Arena, 2555 Wesbrook Mall

Featuring special guests Olympic gold medalist and UBC student Jake Wetzel and Prof. John Robinson, Director of UBC’s Centre for Interactive Research on Sustainability (CIRS), and member of the Nobel Prize-winning Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
UBC Thunderbird Arena is a 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games venue.

UBC participates in 2009 Cultural Olympiad
This week, Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC) announced the lineup for the 2009 Cultural Olympiad, the festival of arts, culture and creativity leading up to the 2010 Olympics.
Several Cultural Olympiad events that will take place at UBC in 2009 are:
• Jan. 15: Beijing Performance Photography, Belkin Art Gallery
• Feb. 28: Joshua Nelson (voice), Chan Centre
• Feb. 6-7: Power Play: Improvisation and Sport, Irving K. Barber Learning Centre
• Mar. 17: SF JAZZ Collective, Chan Centre
• Mar. 12: We yah hani nah (First Nations Dance Festival), MOA
• Feb. 15: Lynn Manning (spoken word), Chan Centre
• Mar. 13: At Home (vocal chamber ensemble) Chan Centre
UBC’s participation in the Cultural Olympiad contributes to a goal of providing the broadest possible forum for dialogue on the Olympic and Paralympics.
Other UBC 2010 learning opportunities will include: a public symposia series, course curricula, volunteer and co-op placement opportunities and a Student Olympic Conference. For more information, visit www.ubc.ca/2010.

Department of Family Practice co-hosts conference
The Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives-BC and Simon Fraser University’s Economic Security Project, along with SFU’s Faculty of Health Sciences, UBC’s Department of Family Practice and the Western Regional Training Centre for Health Services Research are hosting a conference on community health care solutions entitled Re-Imagining Health Services: Innovations in Community Health.

Engineers Without Borders gives halloween treats
As part of their focus on promoting fair trade products, Engineers Without Borders will be giving out Fair Trade chocolates and information to UBC students during lunch on halloween.
