Pre-natal genetic screening reduces need for amniocentesis

The Vancouver Sun highlighted research that found a non-invasive genetic test for pregnant women that could reduce the need for amniocentesis.

Francois Rousseau of Université Laval and Sylvie Langlois at UBC’s department of medical genetics modelled 13 testing regimes using real data from 113,000 pregnancies in Quebec from 2014.

They found a genetic screening test of fetal DNA collected from the mother’s blood sample can eliminate the need for many amnio tests.
