Canada tax chiefs knew foreign money’s role in Vancouver housing

The South China Morning Post quoted David Ley, a UBC geography professor, for a story on leaked documents that show Canada’s tax department was warned 20 years ago about the impact of millionaire migration on greater Vancouver.

Ley said the data would have been helpful to the conversation about rich immigrants in the housing market.

“It certainly elucidates what was going on. If we wanted a transparent sense of this trend in society, then this would have informed that debate,” he said.
