B.C. campfire bans are back

The Vancouver Sun interviewed John Innes, dean of UBC’s faculty of forestry, on the campfire bans in B.C.

Innes said the rainy cooler weather this summer is consistent with an El Niño cycle that resulted in hot, dry summers in B.C. the two previous years.

“I would envisage that the campfire bans will get longer and longer and be imposed earlier and earlier in the seasons as we move forward in time. Ultimately it may get to the stage where they just have to say no more campfires. But I think they can avoid that with some good planning and good management,” Innes said.
