Cruise ship voyage through Arctic rekindles rows

The Guardian cited an op-ed by Michael Byers, a UBC professor and Canada Research Chair in Global Politics and International Law, for a story on the recent decision to sail the first huge cruise liner through the Northwest Passage.

This decision has rekindled conflict with environmentalists about travel through the Arctic.

Byers said the vessel should be used to spark new talks between the Canadian and American governments about controversial waterway rights in the Arctic.
