UBC students unveil self-navigating Atlantic sailboat

Event details: A 67-member team of UBC engineering and computer science students are on the verge of launching the very first sailboat that will cross the Atlantic without human help. Equipped with on-board computers, sensors and navigation systems, the 5.5-metre boat will launch mid-August off the coast of Newfoundland, aiming to reach Ireland in around three weeks. The boat’s journey will span 3,000 kilometres, an unprecedented feat as part of a challenge that has never been successfully completed.
