Can Indigenous languages reduce youth suicide rates?

Following an interview with Prime Minister Trudeau where he discussed the importance of connection to indigenous languages, APTN reported on the issue, and interviewed indigenous UBC forestry PhD student Andrea Lyall.

Lyall said her language is “more than just words and grammar. It holds a knowledge that is important and valid.”

She cited a study that found a strong correlation between language use and lower indigenous youth suicide rates in Canada.
