Popular Mechanics reported on work by Michiel van de Panne, a UBC computer science professor, that allows simulated creatures to teach themselves how to walk.
The project, called DeepLoco, uses “deep reinforcement learning,” as the system attempts different methods to meet a goal until it finds the best way to perform its task.
