CityLab featured work by Mark Stevens, a professor at UBC’s school of community and regional planning, that examined the reasons for the increase in vehicle miles driven in the U.S.
Stevens found that a household would drive 32 per cent fewer miles if its distance to downtown dropped by 50 per cent.
