Understanding reading problems can elicit unexpected solutions

The Vancouver Sun interviewed Stephen Berg, a professor in the faculty of education at UBC’s Okanagan campus, about the connection between cognitive development and physical education.

“From time immemorial, physical activity and focus on learning have been complementary,” said Berg who specializes in physical education and health education. “It’s not just a matter of physical activity and movement so that children can get the wiggles out, then sit down and focus and concentrate. Physical education can be interdisciplinary with language arts, mathematics and other subject areas.”

The story also appeared in the Montreal GazetteEdmonton Journal and Regina Leader-Post.
