B.C. expects more international students under Trump’s America

The Vancouver Sun reported on the expected increase in international students in B.C. as a result of Donald Trump’s election.

Damara Klaassen, senior director of UBC’s International Student Initiative, said the school’s undergraduate website has seen an increase of international interest leading up to the U.S. election, but warned it is not clear if that is directly related to Trump.

“We have no evidence of an increase among people who have never considered studying in Canada before this all of a sudden coming onto their radar,” she said. “The topic may come up, but what is also possible is it’s solidifying the intentions of those who are already interested in pursuing education in Canada.”

The article also quoted a message posted on Twitter by UBC president Santa Ono about high traffic on a UBC graduate program website in the hours following the U.S. election.
