B.C. court rules in favour of Trinity Western University law school

Margot Young, a professor at UBC’s Allard School of Law, spoke to the Globe and Mail after five B.C. Court of Appeal judges said the law society was wrong to reverse its original decision to grant accreditation to Trinity Western University’s law school.

Opponents say the school’s community covenant is discriminatory because it forbids sex outside heterosexual marriage.

Young said she was not convinced by the argument that the law school would have a minimal impact on education rights for LGBTQ people.

“Are we okay with having a legal education system that makes more seats available – as long as you’re not gay or lesbian?” Young asked.
