Post-secondary schools’ sexual assault policies

Janine Benedet and Lucia Lorenzi, members of UBC’s university sexual assault panel, talked about developing sex-assault policies for post-secondary schools in an interview on CBC’s BC Almanac.

Benedet, the chair of the panel and a professor and associate dean at UBC’s law school, said a university should play a role in responding to assault, and needs its own sexual assault policy as opposed to leaving it with police.

“The numbers of reported sexual assaults [at UBC] are just so low as to indicate that people are not seeing this as a viable way to get some kind of remedy for sexual assault,” said Benedet.
