Vancouver housing crisis fuelled by foreign buyers

A new SFU study says Canadian and British Columbia governments have added to Vancouver’s housing crisis, reports the Canadian Press.

The article mentions the B.C. Affordability Housing Fund, proposed by UBC Sauder School of Business academics, which will impose a 1.5-per-cent real estate surcharge from non-resident property owners.

According to Sauder professor Tom Davidoff, at a tax rate of $15,000 for a house worth $1 million, at least $100 million a year would be raised in Vancouver alone.
