The Fort McMurray fire was the focus of Maclean’s weekly politics podcast.
UBC forestry expert John Innes, dean of the faculty of forestry at UBC, believes municipalities at risk for forest fires should look at creating buffer zones that could prevent similar disasters.
Innes linked the wildfire to climate change. “We’ve been saying it’s likely to happen. Research and modelling that we’ve done these last 10 years has been pointing to this,” said Innes.
