UBC students will get ‘hands on’ exposure to medieval manuscripts

UBC Library has acquired two medieval manuscripts, including a rare 13th century Bible, to be used for “hands on” teaching and learning, The Vancouver Sun reported.

“We bought them because they’re part of a number of courses we teach where we take students into rare books and let them work with the materials in the collection. (Students) have already gotten their hands on it,” said Sian Echard, head of UBC’s English department.

The acquisitions were entirely donor-funded with the Bible costing about $172,000 and the other book costing about $39,000 at auction.
