UBC Faculty Association holds vote of ‘no confidence’ in board

Members of UBC’s Faculty Association met Tuesday to discuss and vote on a “no confidence” motion in the university’s board of governors, CBC Vancouver reported.

“Certainly our hope is that a university recognizes that it can’t operate with governance that does not have the confidence of its faculty,” said philosophy professor Jonathan Ichikawa, one of the motion’s sponsors.

UBC vice president of external relations Philip Steenkamp said the vote results will not be legally binding, but the university is following the proceeds closely. “The university administration and the board obviously take seriously the views of all members of the university community, including the faculty association,” he said.
