Vancouver Sun columnist Douglas Todd questions the value of promoting the idea of Canada as a “postnational” state, citing a few experts who still see value in healthy nationalism. Todd names the unfettered flow of global capital as one of the dangers of unrestricted postnationalism, and mentions a recent op-ed co-authored by UBC planning professor Penny Gurstein and housing advocate Evelyn Xia.
According to Gurstein and Xia, federal and provincial authorities are failing to protect citizens from “transnational speculators,” particularly where housing purchases are concerned.
