The latest evidence that helmet laws don’t help bike safety

UBC’s Kay Teschke and collaborators studied bike helmet laws, rider hospitalization rates and other factors in bike use in Canada from 2006-2011. They found that women had significantly lower hospitalization rates than men did, possibly because women are less likely to ride on major city streets that don’t have separated bike lanes.
