A US newspaper revisits the 2011 story of a Home Depot in Kansas that was not structurally sound to withstand a tornado.
The big box store used a tilt-up wall design, but engineers said it was risky.
“It’s an efficient and low-cost building system, but it’s only stable when all the connections are working, ” said Perry Adebar, a UBC civil engineering professor. “It’s a bit of a house of cards.”
