UBC researcher receives Mitacs award for outstanding innovation

Emily Morris, a masters student in Genetic Counselling at UBC, was awarded the Mitacs Award for Outstanding Innovation – Masters following a nomination by the B.C. Mental Health and Addictions Research Institute, which co-supported the project. The award recognizes her innovation related to evaluating the relationship between mental health stigma and how medical professionals, in particular medical geneticists, treat patients with a rare genetic syndrome. Her work suggests a strategy for improving outcomes for patients through early treatment of psychiatric disorders.

Morris is one of five Mitacs award winners nationally who are chosen from thousands of researchers who take part in Mitacs programs each year. For more information, visit www.mitacs.ca.
