UBC alumnus Doug James (now a professor at Cornell University) will receive an Academy Award for technical achievement. James received his Ph.D. (2001) at UBC in Applied Mathematics and continued as a post doc in Computer Science until the summer of 2002, when he started a faculty position at Carnegie Mellon University.
