UBC Design Centre for Sustainability receives national award of excellence

The Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) has given the UBC Design Centre for Sustainability the Award for Planning Excellence  in the Environmental Planning category for its project 100-Year Sustainability Vision: City of North Vancouver.  

The project provides a framework for action that would reduce CO2 produced by North Vancouver residents by 80 per cent by 2050 and 100 per cent by 2110.   The City of North Vancouver partnered with the centre on this project and will be incorporating it as policy in the Official Community Plan for the city.

The jury considered 53 entries from across Canada, selecting the best projects in nine categories. The awards luncheon will take place during the 2010 CIP Conference from Oct. 2-5 in Montreal.

The Design Centre for Sustainability is affiliated with the UBC School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture in the Faculty of Applied Science.
