Meet the UBC creator of North America’s Greenest Building

Feb 25, 2010

Event: Media Availability of John Robinson, UBC creator of the soon-to-be-completed greenest building in North America

Date/Time: Friday, Feb. 26, 11:30 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.

Location: B.C. International Media Centre, Robson Square

Room: Media Briefing Room

Media are invited to a press briefing by UBC Prof. John Robinson, who is creating the greenest building in North America at the University of British Columbia.

When completed in 2011, the $37-million UBC Centre for Interactive Research on Sustainability (CIRS) will reduce the amount of energy used and carbon emitted at UBC.

Green features include:

  • Net-positive energy production, using solar and other energy
  • Wastewater treatment on-site
  • Safe drinking water from treated rainwater
  • Greenhouse gas-positive
  • Carbon will be sequestered in the building’s wooden structure

CIRS will serve as a living laboratory for sustainability research, development and practice. During the Olympics, a CIRS model is currently featured at the BC Canada Pavilion located on the fourth floor of the Vancouver Art Gallery.
