Sullivan Reappointed Vice-President, Students

The UBC Board of Governors has approved the reappointment
of Mr. Brian Sullivan as vice-president, Students for a second
term for a six-year period effective 1 July 2004.

Mr. Sullivan came to UBC in 1999 from his post as vice-president,
Student Affairs at the University of Guelph. Since his first
appointment, Mr. Sullivan has developed strong relationships
with student leaders and organizations, and worked closely
with students on a wide variety of projects, including new
student residences, enhancements to social space, and improvements
in student services.

Mr. Sullivan has shown leadership in promoting staff development
and reorganizing administrative processes. He has also consulted
widely with students on issues relating to tuition fees, and
has been a strong advocate for increased financial assistance
for students through bursaries and scholarships.

The Board was impressed by the broad scope of Mr. Sullivan’s
contributions over the past five years, including his support
for student cultural and sporting activities and his active
involvement with the UBC Alumni Association. In approving
his reappointment, the Board acknowledged that Mr. Sullivan
has been an innovative and resourceful member of the administration,
and done much to enhance the learning environment and educational
experience of all UBC students.
