UBC helps build national student hiring hall

Who gives a hoot about hiring university students? Faculty and
student volunteers at UBC and the universities of Alberta and Western
Ontario, that’s who. Together they have created CareerOwl, an electronic
hiring hall for students and alumni. The service allows registrants
to make a direct connection with employers across Canada. More than
4000 students at more than 73 Canadian universities, colleges and
technical schools have signed up for the service.

Disabled access growing at UBC gardens

A portion of the UBC Botanical Garden is now accessible to wheelchair
users thanks to recent trail improvements. Parts of the trail system
in the David Lam Asian Garden have been leveled out and the bark
mulch surface replaced with a hard surface that retains the natural
beauty of the garden, says garden director Bruce Macdonald. The
improvements are part of a campus-wide plan to create full access
for people with disabilities by the year 2010.

UBC receives $2 million to renovate classrooms

Fifteen UBC projects designed to upgrade classrooms and labs by
the end of March will receive nearly $2 million in funding from

Improvements to 15 per cent of all classrooms and lab facilities
by the fall of 1999 is one of the goals set by the university in
the recently released vision document, Trek 2000.
